On that point, sucks to be him though — he (and I, for that matter) is just beginning to get to the age where I am periodically forced to recognize the fact that he won’t be with me forever and probably half of my upset at this illness has been about coming to terms with that fact….AS a fact.  I fully expect to lose my frickin’ mind when he does finally go, but the good news is that this won’t be what does it.  Still fucking going down though, as early as we can get out of here Friday morning.  I’ve held off for two weeks (mostly so my stepmother wouldn’t have to worry about playing hostess during this time — she’s worried sick herself and just had a pacemaker put in last year) but can’t any longer. So yeah, the one downside I’ve found to getting older (because other than this, frankly…I haven’t cared nor has it slowed me down or changed me much):  your family gets older too…especially the ones you least want to lose.  Wish me luck for my Dad, everyone.
