Happy Thursday, dear Readers!  Thought I’d pop in here briefly and lay out what’s going on with me this weekend, in its entirety in order to avoid over-Tweeting and irritating those who might not give a shit.

Joe and I are out of here around the crack of dawn tomorrow to head down to my home province of New Brunswick.  Many of you know my father has been sick and in the hospital for almost 3 weeks now (however, he is MUCH improved today — YAY!) and we’re off to spend the weekend bucking up my stepmom, and visiting him.  If we’d had the slightest clue he was going to be in for this long, we probably would have gone down sooner but we kept expecting him to get better and be released.

On the other hand, he told me today on the phone that he has absolutely NO memory of events previous to 3 – 4 days ago, so I guess it’s just as well we didn’t.  As anyone who knows me can attest, I’m a nutjob about my father and it’s also probably just as well we put the trip off until he was back in his body.  Facing an unconscious-for-days Daddy probably wouldn’t have left me in much shape to do a whole lot for my stepmom.  I’d have pussied right out.  As it was, SpyCam watchers probably caught me snivelling after various phone calls about his condition over the last 2 weeks and I’d like to thank them for not irritating me with it.  Yes, I’m a chick.  I bawl and if you knew how much pressure it often relieves, you would too.

We’ll be there until Monday morning, then will be off to Halifax, NS.  Joe has a meeting scheduled with a guy in the same field as he and his business partner, Kevin (re – Day Job here, not the porn — they run a company that coordinates a team of techs that fix fitness equipment).  It’s a further 8 hours beyond my Dad’s house (which is about 8 – 9 hours from here), so our little Toyota will definitely get a workout.  We’ll spend Monday night in Halifax (which I’m rather excited about even if all we do is a dinner meeting; I was born there, after all), then will head back to Montreal on Tuesday morning, which will see us arriving home Tuesday night.

So yeah, the one downside I’ve found to getting older (because other than this, frankly…I haven’t cared nor has it slowed me down or changed me much):  your family gets older too…especially the ones you least want to lose.  Wish me luck for my Dad, everyone.
